Accommodations in New Mexico

The Alexander Alliance Southwest is mindful that many of its students travel long distances to attend the school events. We try and help visitors and Teacher trainees to find accommodation at reasonable rates.

When we hold Events in Coyote, students are encouraged to stay at the school to help create a retreat style intensive. Coyote is 75 miles from Santa Fe, thus making a daily commute possible but not desirable. For a donation of $10/day to help offset basic expenses, students collectively choose between sleeping in a communal room with mats/futons, two private bedrooms, one additional private floor space, or tents (weather permitting). We can also try and arrange accommodation in the area with local families at very reasonable rates. Each participant provides food to share, and meals are collectively prepared, often as a training activity. The closest area with B&B’s is Abiquiu, about 30 minutes away, or the Ghost Ranch Conference Center, also about 30 minutes drive. We are happy to provide local numbers if you are interested in researching other local options.

In Santa Fe, classes are held at the Oddfellow’s Hall, 1125 Cerrillos Road, between Cordova and Baca Streets. There is a full kitchen available, and lunches are often a smorgasbord-style buffet or a quick trip to a local take-out. Housing is the responsibility of the student, however, there are often house sitting opportunities, as well as former students and friends of AASW who open their homes for a nominal cost. There are also multiple inexpensive motels throughout Santa Fe. Again, we are happy to assist in your search.

Coyote and Santa Fe are both at a 7000 foot elevation – the high mountain desert. It is extremely dry, year round. The temperatures can easily fluctuate 40 degrees from day to night, so layered clothing is useful. The summers generally range from the 80’s to the 50’s, while midwinter can range from the 40’s/50’s to the teens. The sun is brilliant every day – please bring appropriate sunscreen and hats. Coyote is a stunningly beautiful rural mountainous area with many easy hiking opportunities and a nearby lake – please bring appropriate shoes and swimsuits!
