Living in a Body

Living in a Body is a new program developed by Robyn Avalon of the Alexander Alliance Southwest, which qualifies individuals working in a different professional field to teach a six week course titled "Living in a Body". The Living in a Body course explores certain principles of the Alexander Technique, in a way that allows bodyworkers and other professionals augment their current profession. This program is available only through the Alexander Alliance Southwest.

Take a Living in a Body course to explore!

We are aware that many body workers and professionals in related fields have found aspects of the Alexander Technique very relevant to their work both from the viewpoint of their own personal use and from their professional use with clients.

Living in a Body offers a practical hands-on study of the principles of coordination, movement, habit, and awareness, based on the work of F.M. Alexander. Particularly relevant are certain aspects of Body Mapping as taught through the Alexander work. Body mapping is an approach to physical anatomy that gives an indepth understanding of how the body actually works as opposed to how one thinks it works. In the Living in a Body course, we gain a thorough understanding of these principles and of how to teach them effectively.

Participants will learn to recognize the habitual patterns which can cause tension, fatigue, pain, and stress, and to replace them with the deep structural support necessary for balance, flexibility, strength, and ease.   They will learn to consciously use somatic and kinesthetic awareness to make new choices in the quality of daily life, effectively replacing effort and overworking with ease and grace while working .

Therapists will learn how to help themselves by changing the habitual patterns that can lead to professional burnout, as well as simple and effective tools for helping their client make long-term changes.

I’ll meet you there.” Rumi
