Immersion in the Alexander Work Sunday 8/3 – Sunday 8/10
The Gathering begins with dinner on Sun Aug 3 and ends Sunday evening Aug 10. This 8 day study intensive will allow students at varying levels, from novice to professional, to deepen their understanding of Alexander's principles through daily group classes, activity lessons, and individual sessions.
Study themes include: applying the work directly to your personal and professional life; learning the skills necessary for teaching in activities and in groups; developing effective marketing strategies; exploring how the mind and emotions effect the body – the Work of Alexander meets the Work of Byron Katie; teaching and learning Alexander Principles through Games and Group Activities; knowing how to move well, prevent injuries, and recover from injuries; and understanding the role of organs in movement and support.
In addition, afternoon classes are designed to help you apply Alexander's principles to real activities. Students may chose between fine arts, performing arts, and nature/outdoor oriented activities.
The Fine Arts options are traditional Native American Micaceous Pottery, or Rio Grande Weaving. Since both of these activities require a longer time, students who chose this option will be expected to remain in these classes for the entire week. There will still be time available for hiking and lake activities.
The Performing Arts option is for performers, performance arts educators, and Alexander Teachers/Trainees wishing to expand their skills in working with performers. Students may choose this option on a daily basis.
The Nature options will include local hiking through Anasazi archeological ruins and O'Keefe's famous Ghost Ranch, swimming and canoeing at Abiquiu Lake, and possibly river rafting. Students may choose this option on a daily basis.
